MISS (Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery)

Day Surgeries with local anaesthesia without hospitalisation

Bloodless Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Spinal Fusions with a 24h hospitalisation

Walk in - Walk out procedures

One of the most important developments in the surgical treatment of spinal problems (discopathy, hernia of intervertebral disc, stenosis etc) which mostly cause lumbar, dorsal and neck pain, sciatica, lumbosciatica and meralgia, is the development of microsurgery of the spine (MISS Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery). 9th year – 1500 procedures.

With the development of MISS, the Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon Nikolaos Benardos pioneered in establishing in Greece the percutaneous fusions (XLIF, AXIALIF), the endoscopic surgery of the spine, discoplasty, and he developed the new technique for discoplasty: the transforaminal discoplasty (Hernia Hunting) for large hernias, turning spine surgeries into day surgeries (Walk in – Walk out procedures).

The modern techniques (discoplasty, discogel, endoscopic surgery, endoscopic discectomy, minimally invasive spinal fusions, robotic spinal fusion etc.) allow procedures to be carried out through very small incisions either with the use of the endoscope or through special narrow tubes which are inserted with x-ray guidance without injury to the muscles and sensitive tissues.
